Wellness professor honored for creativity
A Chadron State College family and consumer sciences professor was honored for creative teaching during a national conference this summer.
Dr. Norma Nealeigh was awarded the Creativity in Education Award at the National Wellness Conference in Stevens Point, Wis., in late July. Nealeigh presented a poster about an assignment in her upper level Lifespan Wellness course.
Just 10 attendees were selected to present posters at the conference. Nealeigh’s topic was “Lifespan Wellness: The Mini-Magazine.”
For the mini-magazine assignment, students were asked to create a small publication about wellness for a specific age range. Each student produced a magazine with a cover, contents, editor’s page and information about eight dimensions of wellness – physical, social, emotional, occupational, financial, spiritual, environmental and intellectual.
Nealeigh said the conference covers a wide array of topics about wellness, and had dozens of presentations. This summer marked her third year in attendance.
