Longtime face of Memorial Hall retires

The smiling face of Linda Wineteer has left the building. Linda retired from CSC in July 2009. Here are the words from the Chadron State College Annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Dinner program (May 1, 2009) describing her long tenure.

"Linda Wineteer has become a fixture in Memorial Hall, where she is the first person people see when they enter the fine arts building. Her friendly demeanor has helped many students and other visitors become comfortable on campus. Linda has been an office assistant in Memorial Hall since 1992. During that time, she has been instrumental in assisting CSC's programs in visual and performing arts, cultural programs and college relations." While Linda has been responsible for a long list of clerical and secretarial duties for the department, she said her favorite part of the job has been to assist students and visitors who enter M-Hall by informing them of the "amazing talent and energy" to be found in the building.
Before coming to Chadron State, she had jobs as a legal secretary and a bank bookkeeper and teller. She also worked in retirement planning and customer service. Linda was born at the Chesapeake Bay village of Betterton, Md., and graduated from Chestertown High School, a 30-minute bus ride from her hometown. She graduated from Hiram Scott College at Scottsbluff with a bachelor of arts in political science. She said the vibrant activity of Memorial Hall appealed to her when she was seeking a job. "The energy and variety of work was right up my alley," she said. Following retirement, Wineteer plans to devote more time to her two favorite hobbies--baseball and baking. A die-hard Rockies fan, Linda developed a love for the sport as a child, when her dad served as a Little League coach. "Dad coached, Mom patched up the scrapes, (brother) Dickie pitched and I was the head cheerleader," she said. She was the head cheerleader for Memorial Hall, too. All of us in Memorial Hall will miss her dearly.
